Belle Santora said of the mystery picture in the Dec. 15 issue of the Enterprise Pilot, “I know where it was taken. It’s the gazebo in Oyster Bay. It’s like a Christmas card, a pretty photo.
“I came with the Indians – I know most of the pictures,” she said.
Rose Brusca, identified the mystery picture as being taken at the bandstand across from the post office. She is the wife of Louis Brusca of East Norwich and the mother of Rob Brusca – with another son in Maryland and daughter who lives close by in East Norwich and she has five grandchildren. In the background we heard Louis yell out, “Merry Christmas.”
Billy Minicozzi was right on with his answer, “It’s the gazebo opposite the Oyster Bay Post Office.” On a sport’s note he said Tom Tebow is with the Denver Broncos and is having a great season as a quarterback in the starting lineup.
The Derby-Hall bandstand in Townsend Park opposite the Oyster Bay Post Office and Town Hall East is a perfect place to celebrate events in Oyster Bay.
Nearby is Sweet Tomato where on Saturday, Dec. 17, we spotted a great many Oyster Bay friends including Rich and Donna Appell and their daughter Ashley. She sang again at the annual HPS Holiday Concert at Oyster Bay High School. She introduced us to her friend Howard who played with the band. It was lovely to talk to her.
Last week, on Dec. 10, we met the Peter Golons having a lunch snack after the keel laying for the Ida May.
And on Saturday, Dec. 17, while we were picking up our Dirt Devil vacuum cleaner, donated by Bernstein’s Hardware to the Oyster Bay Railroad Museum raffle – our prize - we saw a red Lamborghini being tested outside of the 20th Century Classics museum. It had its top down – was a wonderful shiny red – and had gull wing doors. It was a visual Christmas present.
Thank you Billy Joel for being a car magnet for Oyster Bay. And, all that happened on Audrey Avenue in Oyster Bay!
