Virginia Slutter called to identify last week’s mystery picture from Oct. 13. She said, “Last week’s picture was of the gravestones on the Christ Church property. They are in the front of the church outside of the building near the walkway. The other picture (Oct. 20) is the fireboat at the Oyster Festival.”
She is absolutely correct. Especially about the fireboat the John J. Harvey. The fireboat was spraying out water from their cannons on a regular basis. The photo was taken from across the new multi-playing field at TR Park.
Billy Minicozzi asked if it could be the new bandstand in the distance. On a sports note he said that Saint Louis beat the Texas Rangers. So goes the World Series for 2011.
We received an email asking, “Could the picture be the little graveyard on the corner of Sandy Hill Rd and Agnes Street?” It was from Rich Mancini on Oct. 28. The fun thing is how many small cemeteries are located in Oyster Bay’s hamlet. It’s been a long time we’ve been creating them, since 1653 for just us settlers and the Native Indians were here before us.
Many thanks for all the interesting answers. Keep on guessing.
