Last Saturday, May 22, we attended the second meeting held by Saratoga Associates on the Muttontown Preserve. Years ago, when life was slower, we used to walk in the Muttontown Preserve and remember an old dead tree that we were told was valuable in that owls like to nest in their interiors.

Patty Marvos Brexel Knows Oyster Bay

“It’s the walkway by Townsend Square, the old Foodtown building. They re-did it,” said Patty Mavros Brexel of the May 13 mystery picture in the Enterprise Pilot. “I used to be in Oyster Bay and now live in Bayville. “I was a paste up artist at Community Newspapers in Glen Cove.” She remembered the art director, Rick Brunner. She went on to work in advertising.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the restoration of the Italian Garden at Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park in Oyster Bay. It is wonderful to see how they have continued to take care of the site – in the most historically accurate way. The New York State Office of Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation is holding a special ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of the Italian Garden in June.

Paige Dawson Knows Oyster Bay

Paige Dawson called to identify the May 2 mystery picture in the Enterprise Pilot. She said, “You’re going to get lots of calls on this one. It’s the building annexed to the Oyster Bay Library. It was the office and home of Dr. Dwight Bishop on the corner of East Main Street and the corner of Florence Avenue.”

Sam Quinn Knows Oyster Bay

Sam Quinn emailed this answer to the Enterprise Pilot mystery picture of April 29. He wrote, “Hello, although I live in the Atlanta area now, I read your paper every week to keep in touch with ‘back home’.  The April 30 Mystery Picture [the Internet date is Friday’s date] is St. Dominic’s HS which I attended in the early 70’s.” It is always very special to hear from the ex-pats.

The East Norwich Civic Association meetings are always interesting. They cover a large area of community interest. At the April 22 meeting Matthew Meng, ENCA president, said he would try to arrange a meeting with Saratoga Associates about the Muttontown Preserve. On Monday, May 3, he emailed us this “Save the Date” notice which was sent to him. It announces the second Muttontown Preserve Public Meeting.

Pat Devlin Knows Oyster Bay

Pat Devlin aced the identification of the mystery picture in the April 22 issue. “It is looking across a temporary little pond created from excess rain; looking northwest towards the Oyster Bay 9/11 Memorial; on the road toward Beekman Beach; and the pier; and the WaterFront Center. The landscaping on the Western Waterfront is a beautiful job with so much natural ‘stuff’ growing it’s a pleasure to walk around and especially on the trails covered with clam shells.
