Victor Emmanuel Abate passed away on Jan. 20, 2014, after a long illness. He was born and raised in Locust Valley and was a member of the first graduating class of the new Locust Valley High School in 1963. He played quarterback for LVHS football as well as basketball and baseball. He was a member of the Grenville Baker Boys Club and spent much of his youth involved in sports at that facility as a player and coach. After graduation he attended Hofstra University until entering the Army where he served his country with distinction as a Sergeant with the Third Armored Division in Germany.
Dr. Ilario Hilary Rolih died suddenly on Feb. 16, 2014, at age 82, of Oyster Bay, formerly of Laurel Hollow. Beloved husband of Zorka. Loving father of Hilary (Anne), and Peter (Jeanne). Frank Edward Hurley III of Oyster Bay died on Feb. 8, 2014 at age 77. Beloved husband of 50 years to Janine; loving father of Frank E. (Katherine) Hurley IV, Christiane (Philip) Zoller, Alexandra Hurley; dear grandfather of Olivia and Emily. Cherished brother of Mary Jeanne, Trudy, Maureen and the late Barbara. Also survived by niece Regina and nephews Mark, Charles, Herbert and George.
Donald S. Gromisch M.D. passed away on Feb. 9, 2014. He was the son of Wilbur G. and Lillian S. Gromisch. Don was an extraordinary physician and academician, graduating from New York Medical College with highest honors in 1960 and achieving the rank of Professor of Pediatrics by the age of 40. He was chief of the Service of Pediatrics of Metropolitan Hospital and subsequently became director of the Department of Pediatrics at Lincoln Hospital, and during his tenure at both Metropolitan and Lincoln, was able to mentor many colleagues in pediatrics within his specialty of pediatric infectious disease, as well as other areas of pediatric research. He subsequently became Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at Nassau County Medical Center and served as the president of the New York Chapter #3 of the American Academy of Pediatrics, as well as a member of the Redbook Committee, setting the national standard for immunization for the American Academy of Pediatrics. He received the Medal of Honor from the New York Medical College in 1995.
William Aloisio died on Feb. 12, 2014, age 88, of Bayville. Beloved husband of the late Filomena. Loving father of Ralph (Saleecia), and Frank (Ginny). Rosary “Rose” Minicozzi (nee Tavernese) formerly of Oyster Bay, passed away Jan. 22, 2014. A retired State Farm Insurance employee in East Norwich.
Beloved wife of the late Philip. Loving mother of Elizabeth, Annette Jones, Sally Beilharz (Foster), Philip (Marlene) and Camille Muller (Doug). Devoted grandmother of six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Dear sister of Joseph and Salvatore., and predeceased by Tommy, Tina Zangari and Angelo. A Prayer Service was held at the Arthur F. White Funeral Home, Monday, Jan. 27, followed by interment at St. Charles Cemetery.

Julius Nadle, 88, World War II veteran, passed away in New Bern, N.C. on Jan. 4, 2014. He was owner of Color Clad, Inc. for 40 years, at one time owning three stores on Long Island. He was past president of the Paint Dealers Assn. and also of the Locust Valley Rotary Club and received the Paul Harris Award. His special passion was working for the Gift of Life program which brought children from all over the world to the U.S. to have heart surgery. Upon retirement, Julie and Bea retired to North Carolina, where he joined the New Bern Rotary Club and became their historian. Julie and Bea enjoyed delivering food for the Meals on Wheels program.
Julie leaves behind his loving and devoted wife Bea, daughter Kathy Holmes and Tom Covitz, granddaughter Kelly D’Ambrosio and husband Daniel and their children Philip and Michael. Also survived by sister-in-law Jeanette Nadle and niece Lucette and husband Barry and nephew Alan and wife Stacey. Arrangements were made by Cotten Funeral Home and service and burial were at Coastal Carolina Veteran’s Cemetery in Jacksonville, N.C.
Natalie Caracciolo of Locust Valley, formerly of Glen Cove, passed away on Jan. 27, 2014, at the age of 94. She was pre-deceased by her husband Walter. She is survived by her daughters Diane Jordan Ursprung (pre-deceased by Kip) of Brookline, MA; Jane Armstrong (Jim) of Lattingtown; Liz Krumenacker of Winthrop, MA; Annemarie (Romesh Vaitilingam) of Bristol, England; in addition to her grandchildren Meredith D’Agostino (Mark), Blake, Cordelia (Greg Baer), Lindsay, Brett, Cara and Marco and her nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her brother Alfred Tufo and her sisters Carmella and Edith and Julia Sedmak.
