Thomas Tetro died on Aug. 18, 2013, at age 90. He was born in New York on July 10, 1923 and was a long time resident Oyster Bay. Beloved husband of the late Anita. Cherished father of Tracey and Valerie Tetro, and proud father-in-law of Raul Nelson. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends. He was an active member of the Oyster Bay Rotary Club and a past Vice President. “Tom was one of the best Rotarians in our club. He lived the four-way test, as he always put Rotary ideals first, in all aspects of his life,” said James Werner. Visiting was at the Oyster Bay Funeral Home on Tuesday, Aug. 20 with a Funeral Mass at St. Dominic R.C Chapel, on Wednesday, Aug 21. Interment at Holy Rood Cemetery.

A former Sea Cliff resident, Margaret Davison died of old age on August 12, 2013 in Lantana, FL. She was 95.

Her parents, Thomas and Ethel Campbell, were traveling east from a trip to the West Coast and got as far as Denver, CO, where she was born on March 11, 1918. She grew up in Mount Vernon, NY and the Campbell family farm in Millerton, NY. She graduated from Oberlin College with a degree in English and earned a masters in education from Columbia University. In 1940 she met her husband Robert Davison, also a graduate student at Columbia. They both took teaching jobs in Wilmington, DE, where they were married at Old Swedes’ Church.

Rachel Parsons Flynn Bishop, 96, passed away July 29, 2013, in Richmond, VA. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dick, as well as her daughter, Susan, and her son, Dennis. She also was predeceased by her three sisters, three brothers, and her mother and father, Viola and Benjamin Parsons. Rachel is survived by her daughter-in-law Diane Flynn, her daughter Roberta “Bobbie” Falk (Ken), her stepdaughter Carol Bishop; her son Thomas Flynn(Patricia), many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.  

Rachel was born in Big Lick,VA, on March 15, 1917. She initially lived in VA and then in Bayville, with her first husband, James A. Flynn. She remained in Bayville following her subsequent marriage to Richard Bishop, prior to his retirement and their move to Smith Mountain Lake- in Rachel’s beloved VIrginia. It was here that Rachel began her life as a ‘historian,’ tracing the early heritage of her family. Her work in geneology led to the publishing of  the following books: Farmer and Field Families of Virginia (1983), Parsons from Natural Bridge, Virginia (1987), Leftwich History Collectibles (1993), and Green Stone (1996). She was the first recipient of the Lillian Leftwich Piland History Award for her “outstanding service in the area of family history research.”  Interment with her husband, Richard F. Bishop, took place last week. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Leftwich Historical Association,

Helen P. MacKay, a longtime area resident, died in Locust Valley on Independence Day morning. The widow of John F. MacKay, she was 105 years old. She leaves three sons – John F. MacKay Jr. of Lloyd Harbor, Malcolm MacKay of Brooklyn and Centre Island, and Robert B. MacKay of Cold Spring Harbor. Mrs. MacKay also is survived by a granddaughter, four grandsons, and nine great grandchildren.
