Local businesswoman, Kathryn Prinz, has changed her name to “KathRUN” while she trains with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training program. The program’s goal is to raise awareness and funding for the Leukemia a& Lymphoma Society in the fight against blood cancers, such as leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. KathRUN is training to run the New York City Half Marathon on Sunday, March 18, 2012.
The owner of FootPrinz Reflexology and Massage Therapy in Oyster Bay knows all too well about the disease: she is running to honor her father who is critically ill with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. This will be KathRUN’s third event for Team in Training. She runs to not only celebrate and honor her father’s life, but for others too.“While I run and train, I carry the names of special people each donor wants to honor, remember, or who have also faced life’s challenges,” Ms. Prinz said. “It is my privilege to carry them each step of the journey and all the way to the finish line at the New York City Half Marathon.”
Her goal of raising $2,500 is well past the halfway point. All funds raised will support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s vital programs of blood research, patient aid, community service, and education. To sponsor KathRUN, donations can be made online at www.teamintraining.com and click on participant Kathryn Prinz, then follow the prompts. To contribute by check, make all checks payable to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and mail it to KathRUN Prinz at P.O. Box 152, Oyster Bay, NY 11771. If you see her out running through the community, words of support and encouragement are always welcome!
