How Well Do You Know the Area? Do you know where this week’s picture was taken? If you do, call the Enterprise-Pilot at 747-8282 and let us know. If you have a picture that you think might be interesting for others to guess, drop it off in our box at Raynham Hall Museum, 20 East Main St., Oyster Bay.
Jimmy Strella called to ace the answers. He said the mystery mystery picture from March 19 was, "The former parking lot of Commander Oil on the north end of South Street. This week, March 26 the photo was taken on the left-hand side of the north end of South Street where the former work shop of Commander Oil was located. It was where they repaired the oil trucks."
T.J. Amotobozo called to identify the March 26 mystery photo. He said, "The mystery picture is of the creek from the Mill Pond that leads to Beekman Beach." It was a good guess, but not correct. And, apologies for spelling his name wrong last week!
Eve Bernstein called to say, "The mystery picture is the former Commander Oil garage building at the foot of South Street where the boat place rented space for a while. I don't know if they are still there. It is owned by Renaissance Properties."
Billy Minicozzi called and guessed the photo was of the Mill Pond. It is actually a good guess; it is just that the archway at the Mill Pond is taller/higher.
Wow! Another mystery solved by the expert and knowledgeable readers of the Oyster Bay Enterprise Pilot! Keep on guessing; it keeps the "little gray cells working," as the famous Belgian detective creation of writer Agatha Christie, Hercule Poiret, would say. - DFK
