Julia Annunziato of Mill Neck wins first place in the New York State USAG 2009 State Championship. The 2009 NYS Championships were hosted by Valley Gymnastics in New Hartford, NY.

While most of the country prepared for the Super Bowl, New York's best gymnasts competing at Levels 4, 5, 6 & 7 throughout the State traveled to Utica, NY during the January 31-February 1st weekend to compete for the New York State Championship. Gymnasts must qualify to the NYS USAG State Championships from either a USAG sanctioned sectional competition or a designated New York state Qualifying Invitational Competition.

Julia competed in 4 events and an All-Around score with the following results:

Beam - Scoring a 9.30 and placing 4th in the State

Bars - Scoring 9.40 and placing 2nd in the State

Floor - Scoring 9.55 and placing 2nd in the State

Vault - Scoring 9.40 and placing 1st in the State

All-Around - Scoring a 37.65 and placing 1st in the State

Julia is 11 years old and currently trains at Gold Medal Gymnastics (GMGC) in Huntington, NY and has been involved in gymnastics since she was 3. Julia trains 5 days a week, 4 hours per day. Although she has a dream competing as an Olympian, when asked of her goals she will only reply with two of them, "have fun and try my hardest!"
