Belle Santora correctly identified the Oct. 30 mystery picture. "It's the memorial garden at Beekman Beach," she said.
Last week we had a few calls for the Oct. 23 mystery picture. Debra Goyena called to say it was the Scream Park. Ms. Goyena is the chair of the Oyster Festival Raffle committee and she added that they were going to present the check to the winner, Leandro Vanregas of Oyster Bay, at Harbor House on Wednesday evening. It was a lovely party, and was hosted by Oyster Festival co-chair Paul Rosen (Judy Wasilchuk was the co-chair) as a thank you party to all those who worked at the Oyster Festival.
It's a nice aspect to the festival, that the volunteers work doesn't go unnoticed - another plus for the people in this hamlet.
We also received a mystery picture call from a woman who recognized the Scream Park photo but was less than happy about the noise coming from the amusement park. She gave her name and comments but we somehow misplaced that file and didn't include her last week. The Lattingtown resident said she had complained to the village about the noise but was told it was only for the holiday season. Still, she said, it was difficult to live with and the answer given to her didn't satisfy her.
We are sorry she is being discomforted.
On the other hand, we have stood transfixed as children walk through the jungle maze. It is amazing how the youngsters traverse the challenging course. The youngsters are hooked up by ropes to ensure their safety. We watched as a park attendant observed a boy making his way through a section at the top - his arms were a bit short to make an easy transition between hanging ropes, and was there to take his hand to ease him to the platform. Then the boy chose a down-heading-floating staircase and again we watched him work his way down with one small slip that he took with ease.
It was a vicarious thrill. If you ever wanted to be an aerialist - this is the way to audition for the job...
It takes all of us to make this planet work. Live life! Enjoy, even if it's vicariously. - DFK
