How Well Do You Know the Area? Do you know where this week’s picture was taken? If you do, call the Enterprise-Pilot at 747-8282 and let us know. If you have a picture that you think might be interesting for others to guess, drop it off in our box at Raynham Hall Museum, 20 East Main St., Oyster Bay.

Paige Dawson called to identify the mystery picture from Oct. 16 as, "The triangle where they are going to put TR and the horse. I see they have a couple of bulldozers and someone in a white shirt and a dark shirt and what was the clue is - there is the De Vine Funeral Parlor on the right. We will see if it is ready for next Saturday. I wouldn't bet on it. I understand it is more complicated to move the horse."

She said as for the Oyster Festival, "Everything is crazed out here. They have stepped up the meetings and everyone is playing catch-up. We are wearing beautiful 25th anniversary jackets. They are black with a red '25th Anniversary' on the back. They go to all the committee members and we wear them at the Oyster Festival so people can spot us. There are also bright red T-shirts, but I think it will be a little cold for T-shirts," she said.

Vivian Koch called to say, "I know the mystery picture. It is across from my grandmother's house. It is now an office for Charles Wang who renovated the house. It's gorgeous inside. He put in air conditioning. They let me visit as well as with some of my relatives. My grandmother wanted me to buy it, but we already had a home. It was originally the home of Roger Royce and Jenny Wicks Royce. They built it around 1900 and when my grandma didn't like what they did, they ripped it out and did it again: that's how it was in those days. They raised nine children there. One was my mother Vivian Royce Sullivan. My mother married Everett Sullivan of Oyster Bay. And the house was in the family until Mr. Wang bought it. They had five children who served in every branch of the service: Army, Navy and Air Force: Edgar, Roger, Irving, Quentin and Guy. The names are English because they were of English descent. There was never a gold star next to them, they all came home," she said.

"We went to the house for Christmas and Boxing Day, and in spite of the Depression, it was always a wonderful happy home," said Ms. Koch.

Liv Livolsi said, "That's the Busy Bee corner in Oyster Bay!"

Nathalie Bernstein called about the picture in The Pilot, and said, "It is where the Busy Bee was and they took down that little structure and the gas pumps and are going to put Teddy Roosevelt on a horse there."

Belle Santora recognized the corner where the Busy Bee used to be for a long time. "I never went in there, but it was there, and it was pretty handy for a lot of people. I think it's going to be a nice park with bushes and the statue."

Stephen Disbrow recently called and talked about the Busy Bee. He said, "The building used to be on Berry Hill Rd. on the corner of School Street. A family named Tynan owned the gas station and they moved from the corner of School Street to the Triangle."

Mr. Disbrow said, "Where the Busy Bee was, they took down that little structure and the pumps and are going to put Teddy Roosevelt and the horse there."

Marg Buffa of Bayville called to identify the picture saying, "It's the former Wang triangle and it used to have that little market there for newspapers and food and gas and so forth. It is where the new Teddy Roosevelt statue will go on the corner of Berry Hill and South Street. My husband's and my family used to live over there on Park Avenue, so we were right nearby."

Billy Minicozzi said, "It was the old Busy Bee mini mart on Berry Hill Road."

T.J. Amotobozo called to say, "The mystery picture is the remains of the Busy Bee at the intersection of Berry Hill Road and Lexington Avenue and South Street."

Tommy Rielly of Deer Park sees the Enterprise Pilot on the Internet and recognized the mystery picture as the store owned by Jack Tynan. He said, "I was only 4-years old but my father used to walk me up there. That was in 1943 or '44," he said. - DFK
