Mr. Meng has several senior advisors, including Legislator Judy Jacobs and his sister Kate Meng, former president of the Nassau County Bar Association. Another senior advisor, Caroline DuBois, said, "The office is unique in that it has a Family Values Room for children and the elderly. There is a chaise lounge, an Adirondack chair with pillows and a blanket, a lamp and a child's desk. It is for relatives of volunteers.
"There is even peanut butter, iced tea, and cookies. Outside in the back there is an area for picnics. We are ready for the campaign," she said. The office also includes a TV set Ms. DuBois won in the silent auction at the Friends of the Bay fundraising event at Seawanhaka Yacht Club on Sept. 21.
Mr. Meng said, "We welcome volunteers and we have welcomed Graham Long, who is challenging Congressman Peter King, to have his campaign literature with us, as well as Assemblyman Chuck Lavine, who is running for re-election. They will share the use of the office.
"We are looking for marketing consultants and energetic volunteers who are invited to assist in our thrifty, clean campaign to overthrow the Republican machine," said Mr. Meng.
The campaign headquarters are open during the month of October from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and they are hoping to have some extended hours during the month. The hours of operation will shortly be listed on the front of the door.
The last time he ran for office, Mr. Meng did not have a campaign office. "This time we need an office because of the many volunteers needed to cover this large a district. This is the only senatorial district that goes into both Nassau and Suffolk counties. Because of that, we are sharing an office in Glen Cove and Northport," he said.
The Northport office is located on Main Street, almost opposite the movie theater in the downtown area. He is sharing that office with Steve Israel who is running for Congress for re-election. The phone number for the Oyster Bay office is 429-9865, at 63 Audrey Avenue.
