James B. Patterson, of Locust Valley, died suddenly on July 20, 2008 at age 60. Born to Helen and the late Stephen J. Patterson in Bay Shore, Jim is survived by his mother Helen T. Patterson and wife Lauren B. Patterson of Locust Valley, brother Stephen J. Patterson III of Riverhead, sister H. Penny Patterson of Fairhaven, MA, sister Sandra P. Secord of E. Dennis, MA, and two generations of nephews and nieces.
Jim grew up in Roslyn and graduated from Loyola School, New York, NY, and Colgate University in Hamilton, NY. Upon graduation, he briefly worked for Union Carbide and then left the business world to pursue his passion, motor racing. In the early '70s, Jim raced professionally in the U.S. and England under the sponsorship of Renault and Texaco. In 1975, Jim returned to the U.S. where he joined his brother as the fourth generation in the family business, Patterson Energy Group of Floral Park which was founded in 1883 as the Scranton and Lehigh Coal Company. Jim, as president, worked there with his brother, Steve, chairman of the board, until the year 2007 when he retired.
Jim was an active man with many interests that included motor racing, cycling, golf and real estate. He was treasurer of the Creek Club, Locust Valley, from 1995 to 1999. On Sunday, July 27, 2008, Thomas Patrick Sinnott passed away peacefully in his garden. Devoted husband of Georgia Blackwell for 46 years. Proud father of Thomas P. Jr. (Maureen) and Sabrina Sinnott Morenberg. Loving grandfather "Pop" to Jay Max and Shawn Patrick Morenberg and Cody Cailean Karlson. Devoted son-in-law of Mary Blackwell. Born in Miami, FL, he grew up in Brookville, then moved to Oyster Bay. He was a letter carrier in East Norwich for 35 years.

Aunt of Jessica Rund (Matthew), Brian J. Tedaldi, the late Nicole Tedaldi, Celeste, Christopher, Daniel, Jonathan and Orlandito Marin. Also survived by many nieces and nephews in Puerto Rico. Barbara McKissock Schmidlapp, of Centre Island, passed away on July 30, 2008 from complications due to Parkinson's. Born Oct. 24, 1915 in Boston, she moved to New York City as a photographic model in the late '30s. She married Carl Schmidlapp II (d-1999) and has five surviving children, Carl of Jackson Hole, Larry of Oyster Bay, Allan of Oyster Bay, Barbara of Sun Valley and Jean Alison of Nashville. Leo Otis Drake, of Mill Neck, died on July 30, 2008. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Navy on several battleships including the USS North Carolina BB-55. Husband of the late Tyyra. Father of Dana S., Randall Scott (Joanne) and Tyyra Linnea Drake Westenberg (Bob). Grandfather of Scott, Aryn, Ryan (Tiffany) and Amberlee. Great-grandfather of Emily.
