Siena men's golf junior co-captain Dan Abbondandolo was selected to the Division I PING All-Region Team for the Mid-Atlantic region as announced on May 30 by the Golf Coaches Association of America in Norman, OK. Mr. Abbondandolo is just one of 15 regional men's golfers to be selected for this honor.
As a member of the PING All-Region Team, Mr. Abbondandolo now becomes eligible for PING All-America honors.
A native of Oyster Bay Cove, Dan Abbondandolo posted a tremendous campaign throughout the 2007-08 season. In the fall, he finished no worse than 14th individually and posted three top-10 finishes. Mr. Abbondandolo won his first career individual victory at the Cornell Invitation where he fired a 3-day total of 4 under par (70-73-69). The following weekend Siena traveled to Long Island for the Hofstra Invitational at Bethpage Red where Mr. Abbondandolo shot a two day score of even par (71-69) to capture back-to-back championships.
During the spring season Mr. Abbondandolo picked up right where he left off, winning the individual title in the spring opener at the LIU Invitational in Savannah, Georgia finishing 1-over par (73-70). He went on to tally 4 more top-10 finishes in his last four tournaments, including a second place finish at the Lacrosse Homes Invitational hosted by Towson University (73-73), and missing the individual championship at the MAAC Tournament finishing 3rd which made the All-Maac Team.
Mr. Abbondandolo was coming into the 07'/08' season with increasing momentum. He qualified for the 107th U.S. Amateur over the summer where he captured the second qualifying spot with a two round total of 3 under (70-67). The Amateur was held in San Francisco at the famous U.S. Open golf course, the Olympic Club.
PING All-Region teams consist of the top 15 individuals in their region in the Individual Ranking System. Additionally, any player ranked in the top-75 according to Golfstat or the Sagarin rankings not included in their region's top-15 are added to their All-Region team. This honor gives Mr. Abbondandolo eligibility to be named All-American his senior year.
