May 5, 2008, in East Norwich, New York: one team steeped in tradition, another trying to start some. Lacrosse has finally arrived in the Oyster Bay-East Norwich school district. In front of family, friends and the youth teams to follow in their footsteps, the Baymen took on the Cold Spring Harbor Seahawks in the first Middle School contest in Oyster Bay history.

Blake Meyer settled into the faceoff and stripped the ball, allowing Cedric Lacroix to take the ball down the field and score on their first possession. That was the first of two goals that Cedric would make on the day. Soon thereafter, Attackman Zach Greenspan capitalized on a perfect feed from Blake Meyer for his first goal of the season. Blake went on to score a Hat Trick as well as get an assist.

The defense, led by a duo of goalies, James LoRusso and Pablo Rodriguez, kept Cold Spring to 4 goals. With the help of defensemen Daniel Eng, Jacob Atherholt and Johhny Fives the Seahawks felt pressure every time they were on the attack.

Ryan Sommi and Ryan Gouse each capitalized on terrific feeds from their middies and scored a goal a piece. The middies controlled the ball all day. John Alogna, Jake Winkowski and Jeff Tolmie not only moved the ball well, but settled down for a controlled precise attack on the goal.

This 8 to 4 victory was definitely a team effort. Coach Degnan has put together a cohesive unit that will only get better as the season progresses.

Close game on May 4, for the Rough Riders third-grade lacrosse team. They were trailing behind by 2 in the first half, but they were playing hard. Working the ball up the field, shot after shot, we were having a tough time scoring.

Finally in the second half of the game the boys tied it up to 3 - 3 and the heat was on. Both Rough Rider goalies made amazing saves that kept frustrating the Mineola team. Fourth quarter with about 2 minutes left the Mineola team snuck one in and scored. The Rough Riders tried their best to tie it back up, but they ran out of time. Great game - great team!

After coming off a huge win against Rockville Centre the previous week, the 4th grade girls came out on fire against a very tough Harborfields team.

Oyster Bay took an immediate 3-goal lead which left the Harborfield crowd silent.

Haya Sheeline held tough inside the pipes blocking everything that came her way.

Isabel Van Wie and Grace Anne Curran stepped up big for the defense forcing many key turnovers. Lia Stanco and Megan Brown created many exciting moments on attack both scoring their first goals of the season. Unfortunately Harborfields was able to convert on their penalty shots drawing a 7-7 tie with the Riders. Shelby Cook (3) and Dominique Matarese (2) added 5 more goals for Oyster Bay.

Oyster Bay High School was once again the setting for the 6th grade girls Lacrosse game against a very powerful Wantagh team. The girls held tough the first half entering halftime down only 6-3.

The second half began with Wantagh coming out strong and adding a couple of more goals. The Riders refused to give up and were able to convert on a couple of goals to remain within reach of the more experienced Wantagh team.

Caroline Kelly (1) played an incredible defense and was able to take the ball end to end blowing by the entire Wantagh team and eventually scored on a penalty shot. Danielle Maggi and Megan Walsh displayed tough defense making many crucial stops within the zone. Kennedy Phelen (1), Hannah Kaiser (2) and C.C. Cook (3) all added goals for Oyster Bay.

Wantagh was able to prevail beating the Riders 11-7.
