The featured speaker at the Tuesday, April 15 Open Meeting of the Greater Long Island Running Club will be Katherine Cimonetti of Bayville, one of Long Island's most successful multisport endurance athletes. The meeting will be held in the auditorium of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library, 999 Old Country Road in Plainview, starting promptly at 8 p.m. on the evening of the 15th.
Katherine was the overall female winner of the 2007 Survival of the Shawangunks, and will be discussing her experiences at the event, its challenges, and the training she went through to prepare for her winning effort.
The Survival of the Shawangunks is an eight-part wilderness adventure race in upstate New York that includes one 30-mile cycling segment, three open-water lake swims totaling 2.1 miles, four trail running segments totaling 18.4 miles and culminating with the grueling uphill finale from Lake Mohonk to "Skytop."
Katherine was also the fifth female finisher overall and first in the 30-34 age group among an elite field in the 2007 Runner's Edge-TOBAY Triathlon, the largest triathlon in the New York Metropolitan area.
"We are thrilled to have Katherine as our featured speaker on April 15," noted Greater Long Island Running Club Vice president Mindy Davidson. "This is a meeting that no one who has any sense of adventure and love of competing will want to miss."
The meeting is free of charge and open to the general public. For information, call Club President Mike Polansky at 349-7646.
