Opinion

It has been interesting writing about Dan Burden of Walkable Communities coming for his third visit to Oyster Bay. What was most informative was the walking tour, as we hope you will read in this week's article, part two of his March 15 and 16 visit.

While the discussion was supposedly limited to the use of Firemen's Field, local residents had a lot to say about what the hamlet needs to have fixed.

We hope the community will take heed and begin to work on some small doable projects to help fix some of the problems here.

Rather than waiting until a large project comes along to "fix" the town, if some of the property owners in the hamlet go ahead and improve their own sites, the hamlet itself will benefit.

It's time to take responsibility for the look of the hamlet. The Oyster Bay Chamber of Commerce has been doing its part in trying to clean up the town, with the help of town hall.

Let's clean up the Route 106 entrance into town. In our opinion all it needs is a little loving care: some paint and landscaping and we can make a real difference there. If the commercial businesses now located there were to go before Town Hall for changes - they would be required to improve the look of their sites.

Let's give it the tender loving care it needs now! - DFK
