From comments from local residents, it appears the community is in favor of the owner saving the Octagon Hotel. That is marvelous.
Here's another issue we think the community can come together about: clean up Firemen's Field.
At the walk-through of Firemen's Field, Bill Burke commented that fixing up the parking lot and turning it into a beautiful space would expand the town. As Dan Burden's architect associate said, from Firemen's Field you see the dome of the post office and the flag at the Derby-Hall Bandstand - the center of town.
Actually, with Firemen's Field a disaster, the post office is the end of town.
Just think how great it would be to have an attractive parking lot with trees welcoming people to leave their cars and walk, healthy, into town. As Claire Bellerjeau said on Saturday, it's only a minute away.
Someone suggested we can solve the town's parking issues by giving out pedometers and running a walk-healthy campaign in town.
Things are getting interesting. It's time to get involved. There are some small but wonderful ideas being talked about. Tune in, there is more we can agree on in this wonderful hamlet. - DFK
