Belle Santoro said the mystery picture in the Feb. 7 issue of the Enterprise Pilot is, "The sea gulls at Beekman Beach. There is a little tidbit in the bird's beak. The picture is looking towards the Nantucket and the gazebo is in the background behind the bird. It looks like dusk or it's foggy. The bird is beautiful."
She is correct. The picture was taken by Bill Kelly.
Billy Minicozzi recognized the sea gull that was flying off Shore Road. He was glad the Giants won the Super Bowl. "Baseball is around the corner," he said.
Mike Rich too recognized the mystery picture. He said, "The sea gull is on his way to lunch. In the background is the new gazebo and the waterfront pier. Perhaps the sea gull is lunching with Billy Joel on Centre Island."
Warren Hultz of East Norwich correctly identified the mystery picture as being taken from the TR Park launching area looking toward the waterfront park gazebo. He said, "The clam in the gull's mouth was a present from Joe Martin. We're down there every single day. The gull says 'Thanks Joe!' We look at that scenery every day. We go there to have coffee. We look at the Nantucket and wonder if that floating ship will ever go away. I would love it to go someplace else.
"I have a picture of Talbert Dor, 75, a merchant marine from Maine standing in front of the boat. He said he went out with merchant ships looking for fish. When they returned and saw the Nantucket, they knew they were almost home. It would be nice to have breakfast on the deck or have a cabaret at dusk. You could watch the sun set and the money could help pay for some of the cost for keeping it here. No one pays taxes on the property. It would be so cool." - DFK
