We received a phone call Monday, at just about noon, to see if a letter to the editor could get into the newspaper. We had to say it was too late.
The actual deadline for material coming into the newspaper is at noon on Friday the week before publication - as we request for all the material that is coming in to be included.
All in all, we appreciate letters to the editor and try to get them in. Unfortunately, we have deadlines to follow or the paper would never get printed on time to get to the newsstands on Wednesday and into your homes on Thursday.
The letter to the editor we missed this week should be in the issue of Feb. 7, our next issue. As we are writing this, we are beginning to get that newspaper ready. We have two stories that need captions in the works. A third story needs to have the photographs chosen and captioned. We received a fax that St. Dominic has changed the location of its dinner with Tommy Lasorda. It will be at the Crest Hollow Country Club on Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. and not at the location first mentioned (the Milleridge Cottage). We have to make that correction in our calendar for next week.
Work on the newspaper doesn't stop as the deadlines arrive. We just go into the next week's edition as we start our week all over again.
Everything is different - while everything is the same.
Issues and stories change as deadlines stay the same. Something has to remain stable in the sea of constant change that is newspapers. - DFK
