Irene Vents of Glen Cove died on January 25, 2008. Beloved mother of Inara (George) Hirn, Ginny (Marcial) Garcia, and the late Ivars (Dorothy) Vents. Cherished grandmother of George, Tracey, Kristin, and Allyson, and great-grandmother of Jordan, Alexa, Sara, Jack, and Max. The funeral arrangements were made by the Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home Inc., where a Memorial Service was held. Mary Barbara Thomas-Chasteen was born on December 07, 1926 and died on January 25, 2008 at the age of 81, at her residence in Spring Hill, FL. She was formerly of Muttontown. Mrs. Thomas-Chasteen was born in Manhattan, NY. She was a homemaker, past volunteer at Oak Hill Hospital and Hernando-Pasco Hospice. She loved to go walking in her neighborhood and on the beach at sunset, enjoyed dancing and went to dances twice a week at the Knights of Columbus and the Aripeka Elks Club. She loved to travel and she attended Air Force reunions with her first husband and Navy reunions with her current husband. She was a great cook and crocheted blankets for her entire loving family. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church.

She was predeceased by her first husband of 56 years, Anthony M. Thomas, her parents, Mary and Joseph Zarb, and her brother, Joseph Zarb. Survivors include her husband, Ernest F. Chasteen of Spring Hill; four daughters, Christine Nadobny of Seaford, NY; Anne Bencivenga of Peekskill, NY, Elizabeth A. Faucher of Spring Hill and Mary M. Gerard of Huntington, NY; two sons, Peter J. Thomas of Lindenhurst, NY and Michael A. Thomas of Huntingtown, MD: 16 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a brother, Emanuel Zarb of Smithtown, NY.

The funeral arrangements were made by the Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home Inc. Funeral Mass was held on Saturday Jan. 26 in the Chapel of St. Dominic's RC Church. Interment followed at Holy Rood Cemetery.
