Therese "Terry" Placilla of Bayville died on Jan. 13, 2008 at the age of 78. Beloved wife of Melford, loving mother of Melford (Kathleen), William (Debra), Charlotte Holmes, and Timothy (Margaret). Cherished grandmother of Christina Peller (Ryan), Kelly, Justin, Sarah Harris (Chris), Benjamin, Marlo Ransdell (Joel), Clint Edwards, Stephanie Lane, Caroline Lane, Kevin and Thomas. Proud grandmother of Brooke, Jack, Max, and Joel. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was a devoted employee of the Locust Valley School District for many years. Arthur E. Walka, Sr., of Bayville and Lake Worth, FL, died on December 20, 2007. Born September 7, 1919, son of Bertha and Rudolf of Skalicza, Czechoslovakia. Enlisted in the United States Air Force in the defense of his country on May 8, 1942. Honorably discharged with the American Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal with the rank of Sergeant on January 15, 1946. Proudly served and protected the citizens of the City of New York as a member of the New York City Fire Department from 1949-1982. Member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. Survived by his wife of 60 years - the love of his life Betty "Bettina" (Hilbert). Loving father of Micky (Linda), Lynn Grigoraskos (Yannis), and the late Lizbeth Ann Riehl (Jeffrey). Cherished grandfather of Jesse, Jennifer Simone (Patrick), Adam, Christian, Katina, and the late Ashleigh. Also survived by many loving relatives and friends. Predeceased by his brothers Rudolf, Edward and Albert (Buddy). Artie truly enjoyed life with his beloved wife Bettina. Hobbies included ballroom dancing, travel, tennis, golf, playing cards, and spending time with friends and family. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
