The WaterFront Center will host its 7th annual free Bay Day event on Sunday, June 3, at Beekman Beach in Oyster Bay between 11 am and 4 pm. "We're happy to once again offer a musical component to Bay Day," says Gaye Verdi, executive director of The WaterFront Center. This year three talented singer songwriters will take the stage. The Grayson Sanders Band, Bo Armstrong, and Nate Gravel will each perform. The web savvy reader can hear samples of the performer's music by going to www.myspace.com/graysonsanders, boarmstrong, or nategravel. "Participants are asked to bring lawn chairs or beach blankets and to remember the sun screen," explains Verdi.

The always popular Anything That Floats Race is also a featured event of Bay Day. Don't miss this wacky fun race which challenges participants to create an outrageous floating device made of nontraditional materials. Racers may enter up to the 2 pm start of the race, so crank up your creativity and come out and race.

Bay Day means a chance to try out a Kayak.

Children 12 years old and younger may win numerous prizes by participating in "Walk-Around Bay Day," which offers opportunities to learn about the natural environment and local history through brief hands-on activities. Numerous not-for-profits will be on hand to help kids and adults learn about the environment. "Walk-Around" prizes include toys and games that help children gain an appreciation for the environment.

Bay Day will also feature free sails, on a first-come-first-serve sign-up basis, aboard the historic oyster sloop Christeen. Eastern Mountain Sports will demonstrate kayak skills and offer free trial "paddles."

At 12:30 pm, Oyster Bay Power and Sail Squadron will hold the annual Blessing of the Fleet. The local US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla will offer a variety of safe boating displays.

BellasPretzelBakery.com will have a variety of food items available for purchase including hot dogs and hamburgers. Event goers may park throughout the downtown Oyster Bay area and pick up a ride to the WaterFront Center on a free trolley. Volunteer-driven golf carts will once again help ferry people up and down West End Avenue.

"The WaterFront Center is pleased to offer Bay Day as a fun way to further connect people to the environment and to the wonderful waterfront resources that exist in their community" said Gaye Verdi, executive director of the WaterFront Center. The WaterFront Center is a not for profit organization located in Oyster Bay and dedicated to teaching people about the marine environment and to promoting the safe, enjoyable use of marine resources.
