"The mystery picture in the March 22 issue is the Bayville Creek," said Joshua Caramico, a graduate of OBHS and a resident of Huntington. He recognized the Sbarros house on the right side and the pier on the left.

Last Week’s Picture
|
We received an email from Rich Reynolds of Niskayuna, NY. He said, "This is a small iceboat on the frozen surface of Oyster Bay Harbor. It looks like the southern end of Centre Island to the right. It might be a DN-class iceboat, but I'm not sure.
"I didn't think it got cold enough this winter for solid ice to form in Oyster Bay, but I hope this intrepid ice-boater didn't find out the hard way!
"Well, astronomical spring has finally arrived. Let's hope that spring weather soon follows. Regards from the Great White North, where we still have plenty of ice and snow," concluded Rich Reynolds.
Bob McEcvoy Sr., said, "The mystery picture is of Mill Neck Bay, looking east toward the Bayville bridge. In the '40s my cousins and I went clamming there. I was born in Oyster Bay."

How Well Do You Know the Area? Do you know where this week’s picture was taken? If you do, call the Enterprise-Pilot at 747-8282 and let us know. If you have a picture that you think might be interesting for others to guess, drop it off in our box at Raynham Hall Museum, 20 East Main St., Oyster Bay.

We received the mystery photo from Scott Valentine, who took the photo. He said, "It was taken Feb. 17 on Mill Neck Creek looking east towards the bridge. It is Luke Francy sailing Tom Valentine's iceboat."
[What could be nicer, a mystery picture and a sports note at the same time!]
The next caller was Robert Valentine who said, "It's Bayville Creek. That's my grandson Tom in the boat. I was there. My other son was there, Scott Valentine. He has another boat and was there too." When he heard the photo was from Scott Valentine, he laughed and said, "That's cheating. He didn't tell me he was going to send in the photo."
Billy Minicozzi also called and said, "It is a small sailboat in Oyster Bay Harbor. Possibly of ice fishing?" He said, "Spring is finally here. It's time to get out and walk." On a sports note he said the Sports Illustrated baseball issue is out and that he is looking forward to the Mets having a great year, adding that he and his cousin David Agostinello are on opposite sides of the mound. David is a Yankee fan.
