James H. Bruns Appointed President of the Theodore Roosevelt Association
Norm Parsons, interim president of the Theodore Roosevelt Association, announced that a new replacement for longtime executive director Dr. John Gable has been found. The TRA Executive Committee has appointed James H. Bruns as its president, a position he will assume on or before July 1.

Open Space Worth a Trail
The Citizens for the Preservation of Open Space at Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park are ready and willing to go to court to fight to maintain the 1942 deed signed by the Theodore Roosevelt Association and the Town of Oyster Bay. The group met at the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library on Wednesday, March 14, to assess how their campaign is going. Fran Leone explained the beginnings of the group, as a committee of the Oyster Bay Civic Association aimed at preserving the park according to the 1942 deed.

Katie Baker Earns Honors In Liberty League Squash
William Smith College Sophomore Katie Baker of Oyster Bay, and the Westminster School, received honorable mention as the Liberty League announced its postseason awards for women's squash. William Smith College senior Katie Hendricks (The Shipley School/Haverford, Pa.) was voted the conference's Player of the Year. She was joined on the All-Liberty League team by classmate Shaila Pandole (Jai Hind College/Mumbai, India), while sophomore Katie Baker received honorable mention.

Among the highlights of the Feb. 20 open meeting of the Greater Long Island Running Club was the presentation of special awards to two local athletes in recognition of their accomplishments in 2006.
