It's a great time for the Greyhounds basketball team at Moravia College where freshman Kate Harrison (Cold Spring Harbor High School) and Kirsty Stearns (Oyster Bay High School) play on the team and room together.
They both had an absolutely terrific year as freshmen on the Moravian Womens' B-Ball Team. The Greyhounds have a winning tradition having posted 19 straight winning seasons from 1980 to 1999 and competing in the Conference Playoffs 18 times. Moravian has also made the NCAA Division III Playoffs five times including 2006 and hosted the 1992 National Championship Final Four, losing in the Championship contest. Moravian has traveled to Las Vegas; St. Thomas, Virgin Islands; Boston; Texas; and the Bahamas for tournaments in the past eight years.
To look over their teams' schedule of play, the box scores, the play by play and stats, you can go to Moravian.edu. The freshman recruits were incredible this year and saw a lot of playing time, and both Kate and Kirsty have very high stats. Both girls have made an immediate impact.
On Saturday, March 3, Moravian won the ECAC Div. III Southern Championship with a victory over Kings College, 86-64. The last time this was done was in 1987. And, certain years they did go into the NCAA playoffs. This is huge, as well as for these girls to have been contributors and to have been a part of it.
Their coach, Mary Beth sees a great future ahead of them.
