We hope you have enjoyed the holiday decorations this season as much as we have. Rita Pecora called us last week, too late to get into that newspaper but not too late to remind us to go and see what she and her neighbors do on Capitol Heights. They line their walkways with luminarias all the way to Locust Lane.

"This is our 25th year. We order the candles and the sand and they were picked up Dec. 21. We light them on Christmas Eve unless it rains. Then we light them on Christmas Day eve - to light the way for Santa and the baby Jesus. We get a lot of traffic here."

People remember the lights and come to see them again, and again, year after year.

"Debbie Bulck was the one who got it going - she and Bill - and it just kept going and we have always done it. When the flier came around I just couldn't believe it - that it was 25 years," she said. "Everyone seems to come out around 5 o'clock to light their candles with varying success. Those barbecue lighters work well. It is always a nice evening. And on a pretty clear night like tonight, I've gotten up at 4 o'clock and some are still burning. That is if the wind is right."

It is a lovely tradition and such a sweet way to let your neighbors know how much you appreciate living next to them.

There are many ways to communicate happy feelings. We are truly grateful for the annual festival of lights and the good feelings that Christmas brings us.

It is truly a season of goodwill toward all. That feeling of oneness with the world may be at the heart of what makes this country great.

We hope you had a Merry Christmas and wish you a joyous New Year.
