Denise C. Ivans, former Southold resident, died on Oct. 22, 2006. She was 88. Mrs. Ivans was born in Whitestone, NY, on Sept. 11, 1918 to Louis and Esther Voluz. She married Richard Ivans on Nov. 7, 1942 and together they made their home in Whitestone. Denise and Richie first came to Koch's Bungalows in Peconic in 1955 and the family enjoyed many happy vacations there. They retired to Southold in 1980. Denise was a resident of Colonial Village before her move to her son's home in Bayville in 2003.

Mrs. Ivans was predeceased by her husband Richie in 1987. She is survived by her son Richard Ivans (Donna Marie) and by daughter Kathleen Ivans Bero (Robert). Other survivors include her sister Lucie Diehl of Greenport as well as three grandchildren, Julie Bero and Ryan and Brendan Roethel.

Mrs. Ivans was a parishioner at St. Patrick's Church in Southold where she sang in the choir. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Southold Senior Citizens. Her poetry and storytelling gave countless hours of joy and laughter to her family and friends.

Arrangements were made by the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home, Southold. Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Patrick's Church with the accompaniment of her friends in the choir. Interment at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Southold. Memorial donations may be made to Covenant House or the Veteran's Nursing Home in Stony Brook.

Jack F. Valle, 75, of Oyster Bay, died suddenly on Oct. 23, 2006. Husband of Edith. Father of Lorraine Vorse (Brian), Vincent (Linda) and Ronald (Suzanne). Grandfather of Jennifer, Colin, Melissa and Nathan. Brother of Mario. Also survived by relatives and friends. Arrangements were made by the Oyster Bay Funeral Home. Funeral Mass at St. Dominic's RC Chapel. Interment Locust Valley Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, Inc., 371 E. Jericho Tpke., Smithtown, NY 11787 or the Boys & Girls Club of Oyster Bay-East Norwich, 1 Pine Hollow Rd., Oyster Bay, NY 11771. Loretta Hopkins, 78, of E. Stroudsburg, PA, formerly of Uniondale, died on Oct. 24, 2006. Wife of the late James P. Mother of Mae Jordan, Doreen Ottaiano (Ralph) and the late Teresa Avis and James J. Hopkins. Grandmother of Lisa Maniscalco (Jack), Craig Jordan (Gillian), Kevin Avis, Audrey Ottaiano, Michael Avis, Megan Ottaiano, Gerard Ottaiano, Sarah Avis, Justin Hopkins and Patrick Hopkins. Great-grandmother of Jordan Maniscalco, Michaela Maniscalco and Alysa Jordan. Sister of Maureen O'Keefe (Barry) and Bernadette Haran. Mother-in-law of Fred Avis and Pamela Hopkins. Also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Arrangements were made by the Oyster Bay Funeral Home. Funeral Mass at St. Dominic's RC Chapel. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Susan B. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation, PO Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265.
