How Well Do You Know the Area? Do you know where this week’s picture was taken? If you do, call the Enterprise-Pilot at 747-8282 and let us know. If you have a picture that you think might be interesting for others to guess, drop it off in our box at Raynham Hall Museum, 20 East Main St., Oyster Bay.

Jack Greenfield was the first caller for the mystery picture and he aced the location. He said, "It's the playground at Wesley Preschool. I used to go there and now I see it as a pass by on my way to school."

Last Week’s Mystery Picture

Billy Minicozzi guessed it was the playground for kids behind the Roosevelt School. On a sports note, Billy is very happy to see how the Mets are doing, as he looks forward to the World Series. On a Bayville note he said, "The Bayville Haunted Fire House opens on Friday. I hope they do very well."

Richard Oakes said, "The mystery picture is taken in the playground at St. John's Church in Lattingtown." (Which just shows there are a great many terrific playgrounds in the area for children to enjoy.)

Denise Seringer said, "The picture is taken at the Methodist Church in East Norwich nursery school. When we go to the chicken barbecue we see it. My grandchildren went there: Anna and Mary Warren. May is now almost four and Anna is at the Roosevelt Elementary School."

Macy Yu too, recognized the photo. She said, "It's the Wesley Nursery School playground off Route 106 at the United Methodist Church of East Norwich."

So there is the full story - and you've all done very well again!

As to the mystery photo that never got identified: the photograph was taken at the Roosevelt Elementary School at the opening of the season for the Rough Riders Football Association. We were taking photographs of the Western Waterfront that day and could hear the player's names being announced over the loudspeaker system. It was as if we were going to see a professional game played. There was a balloon arch and cheer leaders with pom poms. The parents go all out to create football memories for all the participants.

Just proving that Oyster Bay is really just a piece of small town America!
