Barbara E. Grist, of Oyster Bay, formerly of Lattingtown. Born July 6, 1932, she died Sept. 22, 2006. Barbara was born to Robert and Elizabeth Hutchinson in Brooklyn. She was a graduate of St. Angela Hall Academy, The Barbizon School of Fashion Modeling, and Packard Junior College in Manhattan. Barbara was a former executive secretary for NYC Architects; former president, vice president, treasurer on several boards; lifetime member of the North Shore University Hospital at Glen Cove Auxiliary. She was very proud of her work for The Brookville Cerebral Palsy Auxiliary, where She was president and co-chairman. Most recently, she was vice president and chair of the Interview Committee of the Lexington Estates Co-Operative in Oyster Bay, her last residence.

Barbara was a caring , charitable, decent, devoted, energetic, fun-loving generous, humorous, kind, loving, patriotic, thoughtful, sweet, and a warm mother and person. She loved the beach and sun. Growing up, she enjoyed her summers with her family, frequently at Asbury Park. She gave to various animal, environmental, and human charities, most notably those helping elephants, gorillas, horses, and tigers. She always was a good "mother" to the many family pets through the years. Barbara also gave time, money, and energy to the BOCES School at Carmans Road in Massapequa, where her beloved son, Keith, graduated in 1988.

Barbara was an avid reader, particularly of mystery novels by Mary Higgins Clark and Agatha Christie. She followed current events regularly through reading Newsday and The New York Times. She treasured the poems of Elizabeth Barrett Browning. She loved the art of Toulouse-Lautrec. She enjoyed the music of Rod Stewart; Strauss compositions, as performed by Andre Rieu; and Smooth Jazz.

Barbara's love of the beach and wildlife would continue in later years, as she would watch, and feed, the geese and swans around Bayville, Mill Neck, and Oyster Bay.

The true loves in her life were her children George H. of Acworth, GA, and Keith P., deceased. She lovingly referred to them as "my boys". For George, she was a caring, concerned, devoted, loving and warm mother and confidante. She always encouraged him to be happy, and live life to the fullest. For Keith, she was all of the above and more, because Keith was born with cerebral palsy and she was a caring and dedicated parent for him throughout his life. Mom, thanks for the Love and Memories. Love, George.
