On Saturday, Sept. 16, our fall intramural season started. The fields started filling at 9 a.m. and the action lasted until after 4 p.m. It was a fantastic fall day to start the season. Over 600 children, from 4-year-olds getting their first taste of the game to high school girls and boys showing their advanced skills, marched onto to the fields. The children were joined by swarms of parents and fans who cheered them on. Many children from our intramural teams will be playing in the Columbus Day tournaments. This is a great opportunity for our teams to play in a competitive setting against teams throughout Long Island. Currently, we have competitive tournament teams for boys and girls in second and third grade.
The soccer players are currently being coached by parent coaches and trained by the professional soccer company of Intense Soccer Academy.
The club is organized and run by volunteer parents, coaches and board members and is a nonprofit organization. As such, the club is looking forward to raising funds to be able to provide the proper tools to the young players of the community in the upcoming Oyster Festival. Please stop by and purchase the delicious steak and cheese sandwiches, apple pies and ice cream, etc., at our volunteer-run booths to support our club.
The Endurance won their second game of their young season, by beating Albertson Tigers 4 to 0 at Vernon Middle School. Sonja Drabin scored four goals; what a tremendous accomplishment for this 10-year-old young lady. The entire team is playing real good soccer, displaying a great desire to win. The players position themselves well on the field - dribbling, passing and shooting like a team should. Congratulations for your second win and tie for first place in your division, to the Endurance and coach Tiberia.
The Storm also continued winning their second game of the season. After winning the Ref-Fuel Soccer Tournament, these 11-year-old boys came out kicking by winning their first game of the season and on the Sept. 16 beat the Garden City Blazers, 2 to 1. Congratulations go to coach McEvoy and the Storm for being in first place of their division.
The Rockets had their opponents really screaming at Vernon by beating the Floral Park Screaming Eagles 8 to 1. At the end of their game, the team, coaches and parents celebrated winning last year's division title by distributing medals to these fine 11-year-old boys. A team picture with medals to follow in next week's Enterprise Pilot. The Rockets will have one win and one tie for the season.
The Tornadoes had to travel to Kennedy Airport for their win; they played Hewlett Lawrence Blue Force. During the first half, both teams were very cautious ending the half without a score. The Tornadoes were not about to repeat the prior week's tie. They took the field in the second half and Melissa Albanese, receiving a great pass from Alessandra Puccio, put an end to the scoreless game with a real blast of a shot from the right side, over the goalie's head to the back of the net. The Tornadoes continued to press the Blue Force with Emily Siringo taking several shots on goal, being fed great passes from Mollie Sullivan, Katrina Cappiello, Erin Allen and Arden Etts. The defense was solid as usual with exception of a Tornadoe flying shoe giving the Blue Force an indirect free kick inside the box. However, the Tornadoes tamed the Force and the shoe, bringing the win home to Oyster Bay.
Congratulations, to the Eclipse for winning their second game of the season at Vernon Middle School by beating the Albertson Lightning Bolts.

One fine day the Oyster Bay Titans traveled to what they thought was the Far East; it was the far east of Long Island taking on the Manorville Bobcats (out at exit 69). The Titans we primed for another victory and with great weather the team was ready while still missing Kabir Melwani. From the whistle the Titans came out fast pressing and keeping the ball in the Bobcat end for most of the first 15 minutes. The Titans were called foroff sides 8 times during this time period, more times than all of last season. This had them playing more off the ball than usual. The break came when Christian Petersen brought the ball down the left side into the box and almost out of bounds before sending the ball low and hard in front of the net. Streaking in was Thomas Treiber to send it hard into the back of the net. 1-0 Titans. The play continued to be dominated by Oyster Bay. The Titans were given 2 yellow cards, again tying the amount they received all of last season. The official's whistle kept blowing, signaling fouls and giving Manorville many chances to tie the game. The Titans who have won the Sportsmanship award more than any team in their age group were getting dismayed. At one point the official awarded Manorville a direct kick just outside the penalty box. He set the ball down and told Bobcats midfielder Amando Fuentes to "wait for the whistle." As the Titans got their defensive wall in place Fuentes kicked the ball into the net and celebrated. As the Titans protested the shot before the whistle, the official allow Fuentes to kick it again, after the Bobcats player said he did not speak English! Fuentes shot went over the cross bar and soon the half ended.
At the break the Titans were upset at the way the match was being officiated and they were not being allowed to play. Nine out of 10 times when the whistle blew it was against the Titans. It was the Oyster Bay defense that frustrated the Bobcats. Harry Nicastro, Ivan Bonilla, Justin Zeth and Chris Murdock played very well turning the attack away each time. The coaching staff did its best to quell the boys' emotions. They were reminded about offsides and challenged to get some goals. Jonathan Leonardo was inserted back in after sitting for his yellow card and he was hungry for a goal. Jonathan went on to score 3 unanswered goals thanks to several fine passes from midfielders Daneel Reif, Andy Rubio, Colin McKay, Jose Lopez and Alex Selesky. The midfield moved the ball very well, frustrating the Manorville team. On his attempt to score a fourth goal, Leonardo took a ball chipped from Daneel Reif that was lofted to the front of the penalty box and got to the ball before keeper Robert Plank and pushed it with his chest past the charging keeper. As he went to run past Plank, the keeper body-checked Leonardo sending them both to the dirt. Our astonishment reached new levels when Jonathan was given a second yellow card from the official, which meant a red and ejection from the remainder of the match and a one-game suspension. When coach Doug Petersen protested to the official that the Manorville keeper had clearly no intention of playing the ball and was just looking to hurt Leonardo, he was given a yellow card. At that point the Titans changed positions and would sit on the 4-0 lead. The boys were instructed to pass more before shooting as the coaching staff did not want to antagonize the situation. Keeper Gavin Esernio was perfect shutting out the Bobcats and making several challenging saves in the process. The Titans will appeal the red card to Leonardo and have next week off. The Titans return home Oct. 1 at Portledge School and will welcome the Smithtown Vipers at 1 p.m.. Please come out and see some great soccer and come cheer on the Titans!
