Rachel Nuzzolese, of Upper Brookville, has been selected to play on the U.S. U-15 Women's National Team.
The only U-14 player in Region One to be chosen. The team will participate in the Nike Friendlies event held at the Home Depot Training Center Carson, California.
A forward, Nuzzolese ("Nuzz") played for the Region One Girls U-14 Team this past year in Barcelona, Spain. As Nuzz puts it, " She was proud to represent the United States."
Nuzzolese has been a member of the Eastern New York ODP State Program since the developmental stage. She play's club ball for the U-16 Rockville Centre Tornadoes and is coached and trained by Tim Bradbury.
She is an All County vocalist and avid flute player. She graduated from St. Edward's Middle School with the Spanish Excellence Award, Physical Education Award, NYSSMA Award, Service Award. She was named Citizen of the Month and was on the Principal's List. Additionally, she received the Paul Pepe Jr. Scholarship Award which was applied to high school. Nuzzolese is currently attending St. Anthony's High School.
Nuzzolese said, "I've been a dedicated soccer player and kicking the ball since I was 4-years old. Soccer has been a special part of my life. This beautiful game that I love has taught me discipline, commitment, courage and determination. I have a favorite quote, by Anson Dorrance, that I live by, 'The vision of a champion is someone who is bent over, drenched in sweat, at the point of exhaustion when no one else is looking.'
She added, "I would like to thank my family, friends, teachers and coaches for their support. Without their love and guidance none of this would be possible. I am grateful and feel blessed. Go USA."
