The Travel Program kicked off with 18 travel teams playing soccer throughout Long Island.

The Endurance, one of OBEN Soccer club's girls U10 teams, made their travel debut this past weekend against Wantagh. Excellent teamwork and hustle contributed to the 5-1 victory. Sonja Drabin started off the scoring. With beautiful passes from Lia Kakolides and Nicole Hauser, Dominique Matarese, the youngest player on the team, scored two goals and Jillian Tiberia netted the other two. Coach John Tiberia commented, "The score doesn't even matter to me. What matters is the way these girls looked to each other on the field and supported each from the sidelines. Each of them gave 100 percent, and win or lose, that's all I ask of them." The majority of the girls on this team have played in tournaments, indoor leagues and pre-travel together and it was evident in their unity on the field. The girls took their home field at East Woods School on Saturday, Sept. 16 against Albertson. Game time was at 1:15pm.

After going 9-0 in the spring, the Oyster Bay Raptors picked up where they left off with a 5-2 win over division rival New Hyde Park Bengals. Although they got off to a slow start by giving up a goal in the first 30 seconds, the Raptors dominated the midfield for the remainder of the game. Cole Spivak, Jesse Marksohn, Joey Giunta, Thomas Regan, Alex Carchietta, and Thomas Awad won all of the 50/50 balls and fed the ball upfield. The strikers applied relentless pressure throughout the game. Willie Treiber continually broke through the defense and fed Jonathan Ramirez for two first-half goals. Thomas Awad scored the go-ahead goal followed by goals on penalty kick by Cole Spivak and Ricky Velasquez. The defense was steady as usual with goalie Peri Ipiotis making all of the plays in the net and Alex Petrillo breaking up every Bengals attack. After winning their division the past two seasons, the Raptors have been moved up to tougher competition but the team was not intimidated and matched a very physical Bengal team for their first win of the season.

Sunday, Sept. 10 at Portledge School the Oyster Bay Titans opened the fall season with a formula that cracked the code of the Deer Park Fusion. The Titans were primed and anxious to show why they are one of the favorites to win the division title. Missing striker Kabir Melwani for at least one game would make the task harder. Their plan is score first in each game and they made it happen this day. The Titans from the kick off were in overdrive strikers Christian Petersen and Thomas Treiber led the attack along with midfielders Jonathan Leonardo, Colin McKay, Daneel Reif, Andy Rubio, Alex Selesky and Jose Lopez. Defenders Harry Nicastro, Chris Murdock, Justin Zeth and Ivan Bonilla rivaled the great wall when it came to the Deer Park attack. Keeper Gavin Esernio was almost perfect this day making saves that belonged on ESPN. The Titans opened the scoring on a tidal wave of offense from Daneel Reif and Colin McKay that was capped by a Christian Petersen goal (his first of two). The Oyster Bay attack dominated play spending most of the half in the Deer Park end. Jonathan Leonardo was next on Thomas Treiber's fine assists (his first of three). The defense foiled each attempt as the half ended. The second half saw a similar scenrio. Christian Petersen chipped one over Deer Park keeper Jonathan Ortega after Ortega blocked a shot by Thomas Treiber. Fine passing from Daneel Reif and Colin McKay set up a break away for Andy Rubio who sent a nice ball into the top corner for a 4-0 lead. Deer Park managed to get a goal on busted break-out which the Fusion's Chris Montenez sent into the low far corner. Keeper Gavin Esernio along with the strong shoulders of Justin Zeth, Chris Murdock and Harry Nicastro made sure there would be no scoring. Jonathan Leonardo closed the victory with a goal. Fine passing and unrivaled energy was key proclaimed the coaching staff. Next week the Titans travel to Bohemia to met the Badger. Intramural soccer kicked off on Saturday, Sept. 16 at the Vernon School.
