Lloyd Amza Horton, 79, died on Aug. 26, 2006 after a prolonged illness. Lloyd was the son of Daniel "Tucker" and Anna Horton. He was born in Huntington and grew up in East Norwich. He spent most of his life on or around a horse. He went fox hunting as a boy with Meadowbrook Hunt where he later was whipper-in when the late Charles Plumb was huntsman. After showing horses and riding steeplechase races he moved on to train racehorses. A good day for Lloyd would be a winning horse, a good glass of bourbon and great music to dance or play trumpet to. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII and was stationed in Paris when they were emancipated.
Whilst we think of Lloyd, let us also remember his beloved sisters who predeceased him Ruth, Muriel, Virginia and Elise. He is survived by his brother Bruce, his son Hal, daughter Amza, and grandchildren Valentine, Bayne and Piers. He was fortunate to find love later in life with Marjorie MacDonald, dancing many nights away for eight years, until his death in August.
Services will be held at The Memorial Cemetery of St. Johns Church, Cold Spring Harbor on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Pegasus Foundation or other related horse charities.
