Coach McEvoy writes: The weekend of Aug. 26 looked to be a washout but not for the boys of the U-11 Oyster Bay Storm. They came to play and they meant business.
Our first game of the tournament was played against the Garden City Centennial Blazers. We had faced them during the spring 2006 season and we lost a 2-1 match.
Congratulations OBEN Storm (U 11 Boys) and Titans (U 15 boys) for winning the Re-fuel East Meadow Tournament and to the Pirates, Tornadoes, Eclipse and Twisters for finishing in third place.
This time was different. Storm beat Garden City with a 5-1 win.
Rockville Centre Attack was next. A division 4 team in the spring, Rockville Centre looked tough at the start of the game but Storm held them off for a 6-2 win.
On Sunday we came back in the pouring rain to play against West Islip Hurricanes. In our toughest match yet we were able to hold our undefeated record with a 4-2 win. Next up was East Meadow Cyclones, one of the host teams of the tournament. We knew they wanted to win more than anything but that was not happening today. Storm took the win with a score of 8-1.
Monday morning the rain still coming down we faced Plainedge United for the last game of the tournament. Plainedge was able to hold us off for the first 10 minutes of the game and then the boys came out firing. A 5-0 win gave us the tournament championship!
Tornadoes are girls under 12 years old playing in their third year of travel soccer. Looking to repeat last year's winning the tournament, this year they came in third place in the East Meadow Re-Fuel Tournament.
On Saturday, they had a 7:30 a.m. game start against the Levittown Killer B's and lost 2 to 0 due to lack of sleep. They came back very nicely beating Rockville Centre Monaco 4 to 0. Their next game was against the Tournament leaders East Meadow Cheetahs. The Tornadoes came ready to play the best game of the Tournament. The game ended a 3 to 3 tie. The only game the tournament winners did not win was against the Tornadoes.
On Sunday, the Tornadoes beat Floral Park and lost to Garden City and finished their tournament in third place.
The team, which has been practicing and scrimmaging three times per week since Aug. 1, used this tournament as a tuneup for the coming fall season. The team added four new players to their roster. Two of the new players Emily Siringo and Alessandra Puccio scored goals in the tournament along with Erin Allen, Marissa Matarese and Melissa Albanese. The rest of the team consisting of Allison Bliven, Kristie Kelly, Arden Etts, Melissa LaCorte, Katrina Capiello, Julia Cranz, Erica Eisenberg, Madison Fressle and Mollie Sullivan, Kristen Maggi and Gabrielle Albanese all played spectacularly.
