September 11, 2001 was remembered all over the country in many ways. Locally the Oyster Bay Memorial Garden dedicated to victims of the September 11 attack, and located on the Western Waterfront, was decorated with flowers. A flag brought there by the family of Peter Vincent Genco said: "Peter Genco, We miss you so very much, today and always. With all our love, your family."

They are words that can be said of all the families who lost members in the attack on the Twin Towers.

The Town of Oyster Bay itself held a ceremony at the Town's 9-11 Memorial at Tobay Beach. Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto said, "Last year, the Town dedicated its September 11 memorial, situated on the bay side of Tobay Beach, where there is a direct line of sight to where the Twin Towers once stood. It provides a serene and peaceful surrounding, making it a fitting backdrop for a place of remembrance," Supervisor Venditto said. "Our residents now have a permanent structure at which to gather and remember those lost."

The town's memorial monument is inscribed with the names of Town of Oyster Bay residents lost on September 11, 2001. The memorial also features a steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center, which is positioned in the direct line of sight where the Twin Towers once stood.

Mr. Venditto said of the town's ceremony, that while it was a solemn time, it also provided a great opportunity for us to pay tribute and memorialize our loved ones who were taken from us too soon.

Those words can be said of the memorial garden in Oyster Bay that is appreciated and used by local residents who have not forgotten either September 11 or the people we lost that day.
