Coalition Is Happy But Cautious
The Coalition to Stop Avalon held a community celebration in honor of AvalonBay's withdrawal of their application with the Town of Oyster Bay to build a 300-unit apartment complex. The coalition is comprised of members of the East Norwich Civic Association, Friends of the Bay and local residents. The celebration took place at the Sagamore Yacht Club on Friday evening, Aug. 18.

Oyster Festival Adds Two Contests
This year the Oyster Festival is reinventing itself by bringing you the First Ever Seafood Cooking Contest, and the Second Annual L'il Miss Oyster Festival Contest. Another "first" is that the Bank of America has signed on as the presenting sponsorship of the festival for two years!

Sagamore Soundings
I usually treat my summer like a really long vacation right here on Long Island. With the extra daylight in summer I relish having more time to be outdoors. Spending time boating, hiking, touring the wineries on the North Fork, or going to the beach here on Long Island are all things that I enjoy. Particularly, when I am out on the boat I feel like I am on my own little island and I can invite who I want on it.

OBHS Wrap-Up on Spring Sports
With the conclusion of the spring sports season, another year of Oyster Bay High School athletics has come to an end. The year ended on a high note as the Girls' Varsity Softball team, coached by Tim Brady, for the second time in three years, won the Nassau County and Long Island championships and advanced to the semifinals of the New York State Championship!
