Last week's mystery picture (Aug. 3) shows how familiar local residents are with Oyster Bay. Billy Minicozzi credited his friend Nicky for helping with the date, July 4, and saying that it was the parade that started at the Oyster Bay Community Center. On a sports note he said the NFL will be starting football camp shortly. As for the weather, he said there were three days last week that were over a hundred degrees!
Pat Power guessed the mystery picture was of people lining up for the TR Statue dedication parade - which was a great guess - with the same marchers - the Rough Riders!
Rosemary Mavos of Oyster Bay said the photograph showed the entrance of Church Street and the building in back, which is the Oyster Bay Community Center, "it was taken on Memorial Day or at one of the recent parades." That was another great comment, since it makes one realize we are a community that is lucky enough to have several parades each year!
Jack Hutchinson said, "The picture was taken on Church St. at the start of the July Fourth parade as it is starting to go south. The building in the back is the Oyster Bay Community Center."
Belle Santora, who enoys greeting newcomers at the Doubleday Babcock Senior Center said, "The picture is the Fourth of July parade coming from the parking lot where the community center is, and across the street from the senior center."
Jacqueline Field said, "It is a picture of a Teddy Roosevelt impersonator, Mr. Foote, (as people have told me) in front of the Fourth of July parade." That was almost right- TR did wear the uniform the Nassau Suffolk Horsemen's Association Rough Rider Troop wore that day! - DFK
