New Administration in Muttontown
Newly installed Muttontown Mayor Julianne Beckerman opened her first official meeting on July 18, at the re-organizational meeting, saying, "I'm glad to see so many of you out to participate, just like in the election. Thank you for coming." Things were already different with the new mayor in place. There was hot coffee and cookies at the back of the room, the area where village administrator Bernard Shapiro had his office. His office and his job are gone, not to be replaced.

Bailey Arboretum Celebrates Lattingtown at 75
Bailey Arboretum's annual picnic, held Sunday, July 16, was a great success. It was a very glorious event using the background of trees at the arboretum and adding a futuristic tent and tables set out in primary colors on the lawn to create a festive environment. Children had lots of open space to run and play on the rolling lawns. A great committee brought it all together. All in all, it was a memorable party with lots of interesting people attending. Besides the ones photographed, they included Jack Thomas, Len Marshall, Peter and Kathy Picoli, Trish Kennedy, Burt Reynolds, Rafael and Laura Ramirez, Gladis Riovelme and Anne Forlives.

At the WaterFront Center's Sixth Annual Bay Day in June, held at Oyster Bay's Beekman Beach, East Woods students Colin and Patrick McFaul and Mack Feldman won the Anything That Floats Race.

Dive Into the Swim-A-Cross for Red Cross on August 11
The American Red Cross in Nassau County (ARC/Nassau) encourages swimmers 12 years of age and older to join in its 17th Annual Swim-A-Cross on Friday, Aug. 11, at Centre Island Beach in Bayville. The Swim-A-Cross is a one-mile swim across Oyster Bay Harbor. All proceeds will benefit local ARC/Nassau services, including disaster relief and lifesaving programs in health and safety.
