Sagamore Hill Celebrates the Fourth of July
This year's Fourth of July celebration once again highlighted the winners of the annual Nassau County Theodore Roosevelt Association Public Speaking Contest 2006. TRA director Dr. John Stuadt said this was the first time ever that there was a tie in one of the places.
Legislators Help Engine Restoration
Nassau County Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs (Woodbury) recently joined Ben Jankowski, chairman, board of directors, and John Specce, a board member, of the Friends of Locomotive #35/Oyster Bay Railroad Museum at the future site of the Oyster Bay Railroad Museum in Oyster Bay. Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs and Legislator Diane Yatauro (D-Glen Cove) each contributed $2,500 to the restoration of Locomotive #35 for a total of $5,000.
Adam Pecora 2006 LI Amateur Champion
Adam Pecora, son of Joe and Rita Pecora, is the 2006 Long Island Amateur Champion. After qualifying, Adam had to play and win four matches, each advancing him to the 36-hole finals. Adam defeated his opponent on the 37th hole, the first playoff hole to win the championship and a tournament that dates back in the golf history of Long Island to 1922. Adam is a St. Dominic's graduate and will be a junior at Fairfield University this fall.
Around LI Regatta July 27-30
Sea Cliff Yacht Club announced that they are the proud sponsor of the 30th Around LI Regatta (ALIR). The club will once again be the host to yachts from all over Long Island, plus the U.S. Navy will be sending three boats and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy will send two boats.
