Growing Pains for Muttontown
Contested Election Shows Strains of Growth and Development on Village of Muttontown --
This year the Muttontown Village election is uncharacteristically divisive. Three residents are running for the office of mayor - which has a four-year term. The candidates are: Richard Entel of the Citizens Association; Julianne Beckerman of the Concerned Taxpayers; and Anupam K. Sharma of The Village Party. Presently, Mr. Sharma has been removed from the ballot by court order. He may still appeal the decision but as we go to press, he is not on the ballot.

Crew Club of Oyster Bay Wins at Local Regatta
The West Harbor of Oyster Bay was blanketed by blue skies for the Long Island Scholastic Championships on May 6. This rowing regatta is an annual event organized and hosted by the Sagamore Rowing Association in which athletes from area high schools compete. This year's regatta was sponsored by local businessman, Alex Gallego of Ryan Beck & Co. Mr. Gallego is currently a board member of the Oyster Bay Chamber of Commerce and is also a valued friend to nonprofit organizations in our community.

I recently got into an interesting discussion with some of my female friends about gender roles. One friend asked me why boats are talked about in the feminine sense, yet women have not always had such respect in other arenas that conjure up thoughts of toughness and strength. So when and why did boats begin to be referred to in a feminine sense?
