We have heard some discussions in the community about the recent Oyster Bay-East Norwich Bond vote - that it snuck its way to approval. People who were opposed to the bond vote can't believe it passed. We think the bond issue passed because people believe the work needs to be done.

The budget vote will be a better test of the community and its response to the cost of education in the district. We were in favor of the bond issue and we support the budget.

The board has worked hard to create a fair budget. One of the things we learned at the last board meeting is that teaching has gone from being an art and is now turning into a science.

The discussion on mathematics showed that teachers today have a more challenging and detailed job in the classroom than ever before. We are coming closer to having each child taught on a one-to-one basis with the focus on their academic portfolios and what we are learning about how students learn.

Being a teacher is not an easy job. It is an important and demanding job and we feel it is worthy of our support. We hope you vote yes on the budget on May 16.
