New York Institute of Technology's (NYIT) School of Health Professions, Behavioral and Life Sciences will host a health fair and 5K run on April 23 at its Old Westbury, campus from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Open to the public, the fair will offer free preventative health education programs and services to help promote a healthy lifestyle for residents of the Long Island.
The health fair will feature a blood drive, Parkinson's disease lecture, nutritional counseling, screenings for blood pressure and cholesterol, pulmonary disease, glucose and hearing testing, diabetic education and screening, and information about breast cancer prevention. Women will also have the opportunity to sign up for a free mammography through the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine of NYIT.
The 5K run will begin at 9 a.m. on a USA Track and Field-sanctioned course. Runners can preregister for $20 at Runner's Edge, 242 Main St., Farmingdale, NY, on April 22 from noon to 5 p.m. or register for $22 at NYIT's Old Westbury campus from 7 to 8:30 a.m. on April 23. Awards will be given to the best male and female runners, as well as the top finishers in each age group.
