We urge residents to attend the first of several workshops being offered by Save the Jewel By the Bay. It will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Library starting at 7 p.m.

The SFBB press release said, "The current Residential Moratorium in the Hamlet of Oyster Bay is an opportunity to educate ourselves on how we can make responsible choices and implement changes for the future preservation of our hamlet. Save the Jewel By the Bay will be hosting community workshops throughout the moratorium, working to make this a fruitful time for our community and its preservation. To help us understand how Oyster Bay came to be in the position of losing homes in its historic residential neighborhoods, our first community workshop will focus on zoning laws in Oyster Bay.

"We will learn about building and permit requirements, current zoning law, the variance appeal process and how the Oyster Bay community can take a more active role in this process as we work to preserve our neighborhoods."

With many letters to the editor this week, we are keeping our editorial opinion short, just remember this is your community and this is the time to take the time to find out what is happening and to lend your support to the community dialog.
