The frigid temperatures and relentless wind proved to be no challenge for the Oyster Bay Roughriders Peanuts football team the evening of Nov. 10. The team ended their season with a 14-7 win over the Seaford Stallions as their cheerleading squad braved the cold alongside them. After a disappointing loss to Roosevelt two weeks prior (MVPs Alex Gelabert and Rocco Ruggiero), the Peanuts emerged victorious this night to finish the season with an outstanding 5-1-2 record.
When asked how he felt about the 2005 season, head coach Mike Schindler replied, "This was about 21 wonderful boys who came to practice three times a week and wanted to learn about football and teamwork. It was about parents who came home early from work to get them to practice, travel to their games across the Island and cheer them on." He then added, "This is what it is all about - 21 smiling faces, two-thirds of whom had never stepped on a football field before this season. All the coaches and parents are proud of the boys and after more than three months of hard work, they've earned the honor of wearing the football jersey of the Oyster Bay Roughriders."
Congratulations to the entire Peanuts team: Lance Amarilio, Ben Annunziato, Nicholas Baratta, Jack Casey, James Ceglia, Ian Evans, Matthew Fusco, Salvatore Fusco, Steven Fusco, Alex Gelabert, Danny Gelabert, Max Greenspan, Carter Jamie, John Maloney, Christopher Paniccia, Kellen Paradine, Brody Phelan, Aaron Rudnet, Rocco Ruggiero, Ryan Russo and Brian Schindler.
