The Tornadoes are girls under the age of 11 years old and play travel soccer for the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Soccer Club.
These very talented girls started the fall season by winning the East Meadow American Refuel Tournament in August. Thereafter, they won eight games and tied one in their undefeated season. The Tornadoes scored 24 goals in their nine games played and only allowed 4 goals to be scored on them.
These exceptional athletes are having fun playing soccer, while learning to be team players and winning with class. Last season, they won the LIJSL sportsmanship award. This award is given to the team that displays good sportsmanship during and after the game. The referee evaluates the players after every game and the team with the most cumulative points is declared the winner of the award.
The defensive players are credited for an exceptional season only allowing 4 goals in nine games. This record is the best in their division, only 4 teams out of 111 teams throughout Long Island allowed less goals than the Tornadoes with 3 each. The players responsible for this are: Gabrielle Albanese, Julia Cranz, Erica Eisenberg, Arden Etts, Madison Fressle, Melissa LaCorte, Sarah Lewis, Kristen Maggi.
Our offense has done an outstanding job in penetrating their opponents defense while scoring a division record of 24 goals in nine games and 20 other teams throughout Long Island scored more goals than they did out of 111 teams in their age group. The responsible players are: Melissa Albanese, Erin Allen, Allison Bliven, Kristie Kelly, Kristina Kim, Marisa Matarese, Katie O'Brien.
The Tornadoes will be playing indoor soccer throughout the winter, looking forward to playing outdoor soccer in the spring and Hershey at the end of the spring season.
Congratulations Tornadoes for a great season.
