How Well Do You Know the Area?
Do you know where this week's picture was taken? If you do, call the Enterprise-Pilot at 747-8282 and let us know. If you have a picture that you think might be interesting for others to guess, drop it off in our box at Raynham Hall Museum, 20 East Main St., Oyster Bay.

Robert P. McEvoy said, "The mystery picture in this week's (Dec. 1) issue of the Oyster Bay Enterprise Pilot is a building we used to call the ice house on the old Schiff Estate which is now a Nassau County Preserve. I worked there for five years and every day I used to report to that building."

Mr. McEvoy is right, but first we must clear up the fact that this week's mystery photo as well as last week's picture were taken by Betty Tiska. We used one of her photos in the Nov. 24 issue which she described as "Oyster Bay Cove residents' small boat storage area located on Landing Road in Oyster Bay Cove." She said in the email she sent with the photos, "I was off today and it was such a great day that Hank and I spent it wandering around Oyster Bay. I took the first picture of the Tiffany Preserve (45 Sandy Hill Road-for those who might not know the location) parking lot." That is the one being identified this week.

A local resident who enjoys her privacy and didn't want to give her name but wanted to identify the mystery picture said, "People used to call the building the 'workshop'. It was on John Schiff's property, but it is now owned by Nassau County. It is down Sandy Hill Road, across from the Dolan house," she said.

Another email answer arrived with the correct answer. "I think the Dec. 1 picture was taken at the Tiffany Preserve parking lot," wrote Priscilla Ragusa of Oyster Bay.

We have finally received the correct identification for the Nov. 10 mystery picture. It is an answer worth waiting for from reader Priscilla Ragusa. She wrote, "I think the mystery picture in the Nov. 10 edition is 'Templeton' the Dupont Guest home built in 1920. At first I thought it might be the Frick estate, but I think its Templeton on 25A heading west. Also, you have a half page ad on page 37 in the Dec. 1 edition which features this mansion. It was de Serversky's, now a part of NY Tech?"

Yes, the photograph was taken as we entered the de Seversky Center for a Patron of the Arts luncheon.
