Never say die. That was the motto of the Oyster Bay Roughriders Peanuts in their game Saturday, Oct. 15 against Wantagh Black. Both teams entered the football field with records of 3-0-1, but the Wantagh players were visibly larger and struck first early in the game. Although Oyster Bay made an awesome interception and threatened to score late in the second quarter, Wantagh dominated the first half. Even so, the Rough Rider's tenacious defensive was able to hold Wantagh's lead at 7-0.

Oyster Bay's defense came on even stronger in the third quarter and their offense darted and weaved around the field, avoiding the big tackles that Wantagh delivered with ease in the first half. This team was not going down without a fight. Late in the fourth quarter with Roughriders parents following tensely along the sidelines, the team tied the game. But with five long minutes remaining, no one could predict how this game would end. The Wantagh team came within the Roughrider‚s twenty-yard line, but was unable to score, ending the game in a 7-7 hard-won tie for Oyster Bay. The Roughriders‚ unbeaten streak was extended to five in this gritty, heavy-hitting match-up. Congratulations to the Peanuts coaches and players, especially MVPs Ben Annunziato, Steven Fusco and Nick Barrata.
