The Oyster Bay Roughriders Peanuts are playing more like giants this season. Undefeated so far with three wins and a tie, these scrappy 5- and 6-year-olds seem invincible on the football field. Their offense has been strong with wins over Plainedge [21-14], West Hempstead [35-7] and the Seaford Stallions [21-14]. Equally impressive was the Roughriders‚ defense when the team fell behind for the first time this season in the first half against Seaford. The defensive lines created what seemed like a brick wall for the remainder of the game, robbing their opponents of even the slightest yard gains.
After three straight wins, the Peanuts refused to let their guard down this Sunday in a heart-stopper against local rivals from Syosset. Even with several members of the starting line missing, the Roughriders came back from a 7-0 deficit to tie the game and extend their unbeaten streak to four. Team MVPs so far this season have been: Christopher Paniccia, Brian Schindler, James Ceglia, Jack Casey, Carter Jamie, Kellen Paradine, Danny Gelabert, John Maloney, Max Greenspan, Matthew Fusco, Lance Amarilio and Aaron Rudnet.
Thanks to Coaches Mike Schindler, Paul Annunziato, Drew Paradine and Chuck Greenspan, the kids are off to a flying start getting in shape, learning the game and developing a love for the sport.
