The Oyster Bay-East Norwich Tornadoes under 11 years old girls' soccer team played their home opener at East Woods against the Bethpage Blaze. Continuing from the team's win at the East Meadow American Refuel tournament, the Tornadoes beat Bethpage 4-0.
Erin Allen started the goal scoring after receiving a nice pass from Katie O'Brien from the left side to give the Tornadoes a 1-0 lead at the half.
Marissa Matarese, Kristie Kelly and Allison Bliven kept the pressure on Bethpage by stripping the ball and taking lots of shots on goal.
Melissa Albanese scored a few minutes into the second half with a high fly from the right sideline to the far post over the goalie's head for the Tornadoes second goal.
Five minutes later, just after receiving instructions from coach Albanese to take shots from outside the box, Christina Kim did just that-a blast into the back of the net for the Tornadoes third goal.
Melissa Albanese again found herself in the box with the soccer ball at her left foot, took a shot to the corner of the net for her second goal and the Tornadoes fourth and final goal.
The Tornadoes offense was superb scoring four goals, beating the opponents to the ball and keeping the pressure constantly on and the defense was just outstanding.
Our goalie Madison Fressle our MVP of the game, was very busy making several spectacular saves taken by a very talented player from Bethpage's number 8. If it wasn't for Madison's excellent goal keeping, the score would have been closer.
Our fullbacks, Julia Cranz, Erika Eisenberg, Kristen Maggi, Arden Etts, Melissa LaCorte, Gabrielle Albanese were in-sync backing each other up and recording a shout out game.
The Tornadoes want to thank all the parents and the spectators for their encouragement and support. A special thank you to Mrs. Birmingham for taking time out of her weekend to come and watch some of her students play. Her presence energized the team.
Our brand new under-10 year olds teams played their first divisional travel game.

The Rockets (U11 boys) placed second at the American Ref-Fuel tournament in late August this year. The early season tuneup proved to be challenging and robust!
The entire team played very well, especially: Quinn McQuade, Matthew DelRosso, Tyler Ozkan, Kevin Rubio, Luka Martinovic, Jordan Contreras, Ryan Gouse, Ryan Sommi, William Duke, A.J. Core, Ari Lewis (outstanding goalkeeping), Kyle Cartwright, and Liam Gagliano. The Rockets look forward to a fun, and productive fall season.
The Rockets battled a tenacious Garden City team Saturday afternoon (9/10) under a glorious, late summer day. All in attendance relentlessly cheered the team on.
The boys played hard, but it was not to be our day. Outstanding defensive play was exhibited by Alec Chiappone, Liam Gagliano, Ryan Gouse, Chris Hoffmann, Tyler Ozkan, and Kyle Cartwright. Our forwards and midfielders constantly barraged the opposing goalie with crosses and shots from: Ryan Sommi, Kevin Rubio, Luka Martinovic, Quinn McQuade, Jordon Contreras, Matthew DelRosso, William Duke, and A. J. Core.
Hats off to our outstanding goalkeeper, Ari Lewis who kept the game very close.
We all look forward to next week's games against The Hicksville Thunder, and our first round State Cup game against The Stonybrook International.
The Raptors had a successful spring season coming in second place with a 7-2 record picked up where they left by winning 5-0 against the tenacious Little Neck Demons. As usual the defense was the anchor as they repeatedly turned away the opposition. Thomas Sweeney playing for the first time at stopper prevented the Little Neck Demons from organizing any offensive threat. He was supported on defense by Niklas Helmick, Rich Podpirka and Yorman The Rock Velasquez. Perri Ipiotis and Thomas Sweeney were flawless in goal. The Raptors were picked up offensively by three newcomers: Jonathan Ramirez who had two goals, Ricky Velasquez and Willie Trieber who converted on a penalty kick. As always Cole Spivak chipped in with a goal as well. Throughout the game the midfield controlled the tempo and pressured Little Neck. It was a great effort by the entire team and hopefully a start of a successful fall season.
The U11 Boys Riptide won their first game against the Manhasset Ravens 9-0. The Riptide showed improved play with a header into the goal on the opening play!
Great offensive maneuvers by forwards Peter and Joseph Tricarico, Brian Slivonik, Stephen Ello, Andrew Asgeirsson and Brian Levchuck. Excellent ball-handling by Michael Maffucci and midfielders Jason Velasquez and Hunter Troge. Defense was superb by Keyan Cody, Matthew Leiber, Daniel Iannetta and Austin Seaman. Outstanding goal keeping by Ian Bozsnyak and David Milano aided in the shutout.
Along with coaches Asgeir Asgeirsson and Jack Seaman, the Riptide are looking forward to an energizing fall season!
The Oyster Bay Blizzards U14 girls won their division championship in the Ref-Fuel Tournament the weekend of 8/27. The Blizzards record was 4 wins, 1 loss. They won the championship on a second half goal by Kelsey Todd in the deciding game. To advance the team to the finals, Joselyn Cisternas scored the game winner with only 30 seconds left. Brooke Bliven led the team in overall scoring with 5 goals over the weekend and Addie Reilly was superb in the net allowing only 3 goals in the five-game tournament.
Once again the Blizzard's trademark defense was unyielding, Maddie Howes (sweeper), Nicole Podpirka (fullback), Lex Pillari (fullback), and Katie Bonilla (stopper) frustrated the opponent's attackers all weekend. Alex Venuto, Maria Moreno, Stephanie Chakiryan and Rebecca Orlich controlled the middle of the field, pressuring the ball with aggressive playing and moving the ball up to the forwards with precession passing. Courtney Collins was called on to play all positions on the field moving from attacker to midfield and also sweeper.
The Blizzards would also like to thank Lauren Quinn of the Oyster Bay Avalanche for her hard play over the weekend as a guest player. The Blizzards are a U14 Division 4 girls team coached by Randy Todd and Barbara Howes.
The OB-EN U13 Girls Twisters won their division in the Ref-Fuel Tournament, with no losses over the 5-game tournament. Although tied for points with the second place team, the Twisters allowed only two goals all weekend, taking first place by decision.
The Twisters scoring was led by Michaela Lamberta and Mariah Cody (5 goals each for the tournament), with great offense by Katelin Harvey, Carolyn Ratner, Eleni Conway, Marina Heaney, and Katherine Jones. The defense was superb, backed by Andie Terzano, Sarah Moxley, Leeanne Dillman and Christina Giunta. Midfield was covered by Ritchey Howe and Jamie Catacosinos and outstanding goalie work by Chelsea Estevez and Kathryn Ahearn.
With outstanding coaching by Debbie Catacosinos and Joe Heaney, and training by Steve Megaloudis, the Twisters played well all weekend, and are looking forward to a winning fall season.
The Oyster Bay Titans fall season started with three fouls, five goals and one victory. Before the Titans knew they would be traveling to Garden City for their first league game voices were heard crying "foul." The Titans with the third best record in Division 5 were not promoted to Division 4 which launched a series of speculation among soccer parents. After a written complaint we were told we were too late and that the rankings are 90 percent based on wins and loses.
Nevertheless this fired up the squad. With solid preparation and scrimmages victories with higher-ranks teams proceeding Sundays match, club officials were hopeful of a strong start. The Titans overpowered Garden City Comets from kick-off outshooting their opponents 3-1. Andy Rubio started the scoring early with a shot in the box through traffic that found the far post, bounced off but crossed the line. The inflamed Garden City coaches burned in doubt which seemed to get Garden City out of their game strategy. Five minutes later the newest Titan Horrace Patrick blocked a ball at midfield and carried it into the Garden City end and planted it low on the left side, only to be called back on a delayed call of off sides, but Horrace would get his revenge in the second half when he would score at the 11 minute mark. The first half though was not over and back to back goals by Thomas Treiber had the Titans feeling good going into the half at 3-0. Garden City's offense the first half was controlled at every level forwards, midfielders and our strong back line of Jose Lopez, Chris Murdock, Eerik Helmick, Alex Gietz and Harry Nicastro. Midfielders Patrick Sakamoto, Jonathan Leonardo, Ben Horst, Horrace Patrick and Andy Rubio were winning the ball and were unrelenting in that effort. Titans forwards Christian Petersen, Thomas Treiber and Kabir Melwani kept the Comets spread out providing chances for each other and the midfielders. The team moved the ball around very well and limited the Garden City opportunities much to the disappointment of keeper Gavin Esernio who faced less than 10 shots. The game got rough after Horrace Patrick scored making it 4-1. The energized Titans fought hard also and with less than 9 minutes in the match, Jonathan Leonardo and 2 minutes later Christian Petersen were sent off with yellow cards. When play resumed Thomas Treiber scored completing his hat trick making it 5-0 and then swapped positions with keeper Gavin Esernio.
The Titans were home Sunday, 9/18 at Vernon Field to welcome the Wolves of Farmingdale, always a crowd favorite. Then go on the road (9/25) to Commack and return 10/2 at 11 a.m. for Albertson, before jetting off to Hartford, Connecticut to compete in the Rocky Hill Youth Soccer Classic sponsored by Marriott Hotels on Columbus weekend.
The intramural soccer season started Saturday, Sept. 17.
