Curtis Linkletter was born Curtis Fisherman in Fallon, NV, on Sept. 12, 1969. Both of his natural parents died at a young age, his mom at 21 and his dad at 41. After a short time in foster care, he and his half brother were adopted by a loving couple, Marge and George Onderdonk Linkletter later to be Rosenberg. He and his family eventually moved back to Vermont, the home place of his mom. He attended the Cardigan Mountain School and finished his last year of high school in Locust Valley where his mom and her newest husband relocated. After graduating from Locust Valley High School in 1987, Curtis began working as a caddy and assistant to the golf pro at Brookville Country Club in Brookville and then at The Creek Club in Locust Valley. It was there that he met his wife to be and soul mate Geri Abbondandolo. Soon they were married and had a beautiful daughter, Miriah in 1993.
Curtis was well liked in his field and worked hard and excelled at everything he did. Often to top golfers would request him and recommend him highly for his great personality and his trustworthy expertise. He caddied for great golfers such as Vinjay Sing, Anika Sorenstam and Ryan Moore.
In 2001 he and his family moved to Ridge where he worked for a construction company, All County. He was fortunate enough to meet his good friend, Pat, who taught him the trade of framing houses. Curtis helped to build more than 300 homes in Suffolk County over time from Northport to Montauk. In Laurel, at the elegant Laurel Golf Course, Curtis helped to build the beautiful home styled, inspired and built as a replica of a 1700s plantation home from the southern US.
In 2001 Curtis had the good fortune of meeting his biological extended family. Curtis died on Aug. 29, 2005 of genetic liver disease just two weeks before his 36th birthday. He will be dearly missed. He loved life, his family, surfing, music, snow boarding, camping and people in general. He could lift a saddened heart with his smile and his warm words. Children especially loved him because he was like a "big kid" at heart.
Dodge-Thomas Funeral directors, Glen Cove, made arrangements. Curtis was laid to rest at Locust Valley Cemetery. Curtis, we will remember your hearty laughs and miss you dearly.
